At Linguviq, we respect your privacy and your right to control your personal data. This page provides comprehensive instructions on how to request deletion of your account and associated personal data from our platform.
We are committed to processing all data deletion requests in compliance with applicable privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant data protection regulations.
What Data Will Be Deleted?
When you request account deletion, the following information will be permanently removed from our systems:
- Account Information: Email address, password, username, and login credentials
- Profile Data: Profile picture, bio, language preferences, interests, and personal information
- Usage Data: Session history, conversation logs, learning progress, and activity records
- Communication Data: Messages, chat history, and communication with other users
- Subscription Data: Payment history and subscription details
- Device Information: IP addresses, device identifiers, and technical data
Data Retention and Exceptions
While we will delete most of your data immediately, some information may be retained for the following reasons:
- Legal Compliance: We may retain certain data as required by law, regulation, or legal process (e.g., tax records, fraud prevention)
- Security and Fraud Prevention: Minimal data may be kept to prevent abuse and protect our platform
- Backup Systems: Deleted data may remain in backup systems for up to 90 days before permanent deletion
- Anonymized Data: Data that has been fully anonymized and cannot be linked back to you may be retained for analytics and research purposes
How to Delete Your Account and Data
Method 1: In-App Account Deletion (Recommended)
- Log in to your Linguviq account on the mobile app or website
- Navigate to Settings or Account Settings
- Scroll to the bottom and select Account Management
- Click on Delete Account
- Read the confirmation message and understand that this action is irreversible
- Enter your password to confirm your identity
- Click Confirm Deletion
- You will receive a confirmation email once the deletion is complete
Method 2: Email Request
If you are unable to access your account or prefer to submit a manual request, you can email us directly:
- Send an email to privacy@linguviq.com or support@linguviq.com
- Use the subject line: "Account Deletion Request"
- Include the following information in your email:
- Your full name as registered on Linguviq
- The email address associated with your account
- Your username (if applicable)
- A brief statement confirming you want to delete your account and all associated data
- For security purposes, we may ask you to verify your identity before processing the request
- We will process your request within 30 days and send you a confirmation email
Method 3: Facebook Data Deletion (for Facebook Login Users)
If you signed up for Linguviq using Facebook Login and want to remove your data:
- Go to your Facebook Settings & Privacy
- Click on Settings
- Navigate to Apps and Websites
- Find Linguviq in the list of apps
- Click Remove to disconnect the app from Facebook
- Additionally, follow Method 1 or Method 2 above to delete your Linguviq account data
Data Deletion Timeline
- Immediate: Your account will be deactivated immediately upon request
- Within 7 days: Most of your personal data will be deleted from active systems
- Within 30 days: All data deletion requests will be fully processed
- Up to 90 days: Data may remain in backup systems before permanent deletion
Important Considerations Before Deleting
Irreversible Action
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Once your account is deleted:
- You will lose access to all your conversation history and learning progress
- Any active subscriptions will be canceled (without refund)
- You will not be able to recover your username or profile
- All connections with conversation partners will be lost
Alternative: Account Deactivation
If you're not ready for permanent deletion, you can temporarily deactivate your account:
- Your profile will be hidden from other users
- Your data will be preserved for future reactivation
- You can reactivate your account at any time by logging back in
To deactivate instead of delete, select Deactivate Account in your account settings.
Subscription and Billing
If you have an active premium subscription:
- Cancel your subscription before deleting your account to avoid being charged
- Deleting your account will automatically cancel your subscription
- No refunds will be provided for unused subscription periods
- You can cancel your subscription through your account settings or by contacting support@linguviq.com
Third-Party Data
Please note that deleting your Linguviq account does not automatically delete data shared with or stored by third-party services such as:
- Facebook, Google, or other social media platforms you connected
- Payment processors (Stripe, PayPal, etc.)
- Analytics services
You may need to separately manage your data with these third-party services according to their own privacy policies.
Verification and Confirmation
To protect your account from unauthorized deletion, we may require verification of your identity. This may include:
- Email verification
- Password confirmation
- Two-factor authentication (if enabled)
- Additional security questions
After Deletion
Once your account is deleted, you will receive a confirmation email. If you change your mind:
- You may be able to recover your account within 7 days by contacting support
- After 7 days, deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed
- You can create a new account at any time, but your previous data will not be restored
